So much for the Obama campaign promise that he would get defense spending under control. Yesterday, the House passed a $636 billion defense spending bill that is expected to be passed in the Senate over the course of the next week.
The budget proposal is a $121 billion increase over last year's proposal under Bush.
For those who would say that we have a troop increase in Afghanistan that needs to be paid for, let's stop right there--the $636 billion doesn't even cover that.
That $30 billion will be folded into a supplemental and isn't included in the budget proposal.
