Identifying At-Risk children certainly isn't anything new, but the UK has concerned itself with finding At-Risk terrorist children. Sound crazy?
A new police-run program in the UK aimed at rooting out radicalism among Muslim youth identified hundreds of school children as "would-be terrorists," raising concern among Muslim organizations who warned the program infringed on civil liberties.
The "Channel project," revealed on the heels of Britain's new anti-terror laws, recently singled out 200 school children as young as 13 years for potentially being at risk of harboring religious extremist views in the future.
Started in mid 2007, the Channel project was piloted in Lancashire and Lambeth where officers flagged 10 individuals. The count of potential young terrorists however skyrocketed as the program became widely implemented in other areas in 2008.
